Precisionism

The Precisionism (English Precisionism ) was a style in American painting that originated after the First World War and the interwar period had its peak. The Precisionism was part of the American Realism and strongly influenced by Cubism and Futurism.

Motives and style

Like other realists, representatives of Precisionism translated aware from the traditional landscape painting and the historicizing, but also of abstract art. As motifs they chose mainly large cities, industrial complexes and other technical facilities. As they worked with precise geometric shapes and perfect color gradients without impurities, they were also sterile ISTS ( Sterilisten ) and Immaculates called ( the Immaculate ). The illustrations are evidence of a growing self- consciousness of American industrial society and a certain admiration for their buildings, but it was the social commentary ( unlike the Ashcan School) not a central element of the Precisionism.

Significant representatives

Charles Demuth, Charles Sheeler and Georgia O'Keeffe were important representatives of Precisionism.
