Prega Ramsamy

Pakeereesamy " Prega " Ramsamy ( born May 5, 1950 in Beau Bassin - Rose Hill, Mauritius) is a native of Mauritius economist and former Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community ( SADC).

Life

After studying Ramsamy 1975 economist in the Ministry of Economic Planning of Mauritius, before 1983 Leading Expert of Trade at Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA ), a regional organization based in Lusaka.

In 1991 he was appointed Head of Technical Cooperation and Development Help COMESA and later as Director of Technical Cooperation and Financial Development. In this role he was involved in the planning of regional macroeconomic policies for sustained economic growth and the development of project proposals for donor countries. He also presented among other tasks on guidelines for Member States on issues such as Handelsliberalsierung.

In 1997 he joined the Southern African Development Community ( SADC), where he was chief economist and had a wealth of experience in regional economic integration policy because of his previous activities. Later he was Deputy Executive Secretary and led in this function in place of Kaire Mbuende from 1 January 2000 to 9 March 2001, whose term of office as Executive Secretary provisionally on.

On 9 March 2001 Ramsamy, who sought, in particular, diplomatic consensus-building was officially the Executive Secretary of SADC and held this position until his replacement by Tomaz Salomão on 1 September 2005. In this role, he held, among others, in January 2005 a speech on an international conference to mark the tenth anniversary of the Barbados program for the sustainable development of small island developing States.
