Presidente Lucena

Presidente Lucena is a town of 2,485 inhabitants in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil. It lies about 60 km north of Porto Alegre. Adjacent are the places Picada Cafe, Morro Reuter, Ivoti, Lindolfo Collor and São José do Hortêncio. Originally Presidente Lucena was part of Munizips Ivoti.

History

As of 1826, the first immigrants arrived in the second German wave of immigrants to Rio Grande do Sul in the area. The oldest places of Munizips are Linha Nova Baixa and Picada Schneider. Linha Nova Baixa originated around 1830, Picada Schneider in 1845, the town of Vila Nova, formerly Nova Alemanha, was colonized after 1850. Today's Presidente Lucena, formerly Arroio Veado arose much later.

1885, the provincial government was planning a road from São Leopoldo to Nova Petrópolis. The Picada ( path ) emerged in 1888 on old - Tropeiro ways in which cattle were driven to the north. Later it was called Estrada Presidente Lucena, for cars it was built in 1913 usable.

Agriculture

The small-scale agriculture still dominates the region, as in the days of the colonies with mixed cultures. There are about 410 farms with an average of 10 hectares. In addition to gardening, there are corn, sugar cane and acacia for the extraction of tannins for the leather industry. There are cattle, pig and chicken farming.

Industry

Although Presidente Lucena is rural, there are many industrial plants for cement, lubricating Colonial ( jam, as is often taken for Café Colonial ), textiles, furniture, fruits and brandy.

Tourism

The main attractions are the historic center of Picada Schneider, the Iron Bridge Linha Nova Baixa over the Rio Cadeia and the Morro do Pedro with a height of 595 meters. Half-timbered houses, there is a historical and also in modern form, such as the new Centro Administrativo. Even today, talking about 90 % Riograndenser Hunsrückisch that German culture is maintained and ( culinary ) markets.
