Presque Isle Light

The Presque Isle Light is one of three lighthouses in the city of Erie ( Pennsylvania). It was erected in 1872 on the projecting into Lake Erie Presque Isle Peninsula.

History

Construction of the lighthouse began in 1872. On a foundation of limestone a brick brick tower was built on a square plan. Originally it was 12 meters high. In 1896 he was raised to its present height of 19 meters. The commissioning took place on 12 July 1873.

Its characteristic identification of two red flashes followed by four white was changed with the electrification of the tower in the 1920s in an alternate red and white fire. In 1962 the lighthouse was fully automated and installed as an identifier with a clocking three seconds of light intervals.

On August 4, 1983, the lighthouse on the National Register of Historic Places was recorded.
