Priit Pärn

Priit Pärn ( born August 26, 1946 in Tallinn) is an Estonian animation director.

Life

1965 graduated from the High School of Priit Pärn Tapa. He studied until 1970 Biology at the University of Tartu and subsequently worked as an ecologist and plant biologist in Tallinn. His film career began in 1974 under the guidance of pure Raamat as a draftsman for the Estonian animated film Kilplased. From 1976 Pärn worked in the Animation Department of the Estonian state film company Tallinnfilm. In 1977 he succeeded his directorial debut with Kas maakera on ümmargune? Since 1994 he work for the film studio Tallinn Joonisfilm.

Between 1994 and 1997 Priit Pärn taught the tray Animation at the Art Academy in Turku. Since autumn 2006 he has been head of the animation department of the Estonian Academy of Arts. In addition to his directing and screenwriting work, he has also worked as a graphic artist, cartoonist and illustrator. Particularly well known were his illustrations for the children 's books by Kari Hotakainen.

Cinematic works

Priit Pärn is now one of the most famous animation directors in Estonia. His films have won numerous international awards. He was honored in Ottawa for his life's work by the Association internationale du film d'animation ( ASIFA ) 2001. 2004 Award Il tempo gigante he was awarded on the Animation Festival Fredrikstad (Norway).

The style of Priit Pärn is characterized by black humor, playful surrealism, self-irony and a special drawing handwriting.
