Prims Valley Railway

The Primstalbahn is a former railway line between Nonnweiler ( Black Hochwald ) and Primsweiler ran in a north-south direction along the upper reaches of the prims, then turned off to the east and Lebach to Neunkirchen ( Saar) led. This section Lebach - Neunkirchen ( Saar) is still served today.

History

The construction took place in three phases. The very first some eight kilometer route went from Neunkirchen (Saar ) to Wemmetsweiler ( and from there south towards Saarbrücken.) Opening was on October 15, 1879.

On 10 May 1890, the construction of the line Hermes wedge was a Prussian law - Wemmetsweiler decided. But only four years later, on April 15, 1894, work began in Hermes wedge. Through the simultaneous construction of the entire range of local labor market was soon exhausted, had to be used, the foreign workers from Italy and the Balkans. On May 15, 1897, the section from Wemmetsweiler was taken to Lebach in operation. The traffic for the remaining 35.6 km was in the same year then released to Nonnweiler on 10 December.

The route was from the beginning to guide workers from the thinly populated northern areas of the Saarland in the Saar region. In Primsweiler a branch line to Dillingen (Saar) branches off to the west, in Lebach to Völklingen and in Wemmetsweiler south towards Saarbrücken from. Today, the trains of Lebach - Jabach on the 2006 newly built Wemmetsweiler curve and the Fischbach Valley Railway run to Saarbruecken. At the new railway junction Illingen there are connections to Homburg.

The section Wadern- Nonnweiler was decommissioned in passenger traffic on 3 October 1959 in freight traffic on April 30, 1968. However, a train had been here since 1945, hardly driven yet. Passenger traffic between Wadern Lebach, and between Dillingen and Wadern was set on 30 May 1980. Then there were regular freight services to Wadern until 30 May 1992. After that date, Basaltwerke in Michel Bach and the company Meiser were approached in Limbach on the Dillingen connection. On 1 January 2005 the siding was sold to the company Meiser. The operation took over the railway company of Dillinger Hütte.

The transport of goods between Primsweiler and Lebach - Jabach ended on 31 December 1987. Nonnweiler From from Mariahütte was operated until 1999 in freight transport.

The path loss between Mariahütte and Wadern in November 1968. Was dismantled with the compound curve of Mariahütte after Türkismühle. On a part of the former route between Primstal and Mariahütte today runs the Autobahn 1 The station building of Kastel, Primstal and Krettnich were demolished. The line tracks between Wadern Büschfeld were degraded after 30 November 1993.

Route description

In actual usage, the Primstalbahn describes only the distance between Nonnweiler and Dillingen, which eventually always leads along the prims " stretch technically " leads the railway line but as described above from Nonnweiler to Neunkirchen (Saar). So there has been over the decades various " direct ", for example from Saarbrücken over the left side Saar ( Fürstenhausen ) - Völklingen to Primsweiler and back.

The travel time for the total connection with the length of 61 kilometers was before the Second World War at slightly over 120 minutes. This can be explained by the long duration of stay in the stations and of course the fact that trains had to wait for this single track at corresponding stations on countermoves. The connection Dillingen - Primsweiler had in the course book, 1944, the number 265g. Throughout its history, wrong on all parts described here only passenger trains on the 2nd and 3rd class as well as freight trains.

In Nonnweiler was connected to the high forest train to Trier and Türkismühle and the Hunsrück cross train to Langenlonsheim (Nahe).

Today Lebach - Jabach is the terminus of the railway line. The compound according to Nonnweiler is interrupted by the A1 and the old railway embankment shall not begin until after the town of Kastel. And only from Mariahütte are currently the tracks.

The section between Wemmetsweiler Illingen was partially expanded to double track in 2004, with a main track was electrified.

On 30 November 2009, on the stretch Wemmetsweiler - Lebach taken the ESTW Wemmetsweiler in operation

Traffic

After the construction of Wemmetsweiler curve 2004 the passenger traffic between Saarbrücken and Lebach - Jabach is performed with railcar of the BR 628. The Wemmetsweiler station was abandoned and relocated the railway junction Illingen. Between Homburg and Illingen operate motor coaches of the BR 426 and BR 425

Stations

The station building of Illingen, Dirmingen, Eppelborn, Lebach, Primsweiler, melting, Wadern - Büschfeld and Wadern- Dagstuhl - as well as the station building of the high forest railway Nonnweiler beer box and Nonnweiler - Sötern - were all built only in 1900 and showed great similarity to each other on. It is certain that the buildings were designed and built together. All buildings are unrendered Ziegelrohbauten. The only exception is the construction in Primsweiler, which was plastered. All buildings have two storeys, simply cut segmental arch windows and getreppte at the corners, kapitellartige recesses. Presentation of this type of building are likely located in the Rhenish railway stations of Great King village and in 1877 inaugurated station Schiefbahn have been.

The station building in Wadern- Dagstuhl - which is also where the city Wadern - was built from 1896 to 1897. The Waderner citizens defended themselves against the construction of a railway station in their city, so this was not built in Wadern, but on the boundary Dagstuhl. The owners of the Dagstuhl located near Mariahütte campaigned for a construction in their vicinity.

The actual reception building at this now a historical monument ensemble is a two-storey, four-axle brick building. On a picture which was probably taken in the early 20th century, the railway station is still visible as brick shell; Today he is plastered as the rest of the building also.
