Prince Edward Island Liberal Party

The Prince Edward Iceland Liberal Party is a liberal political party in the Canadian province of Prince Edward Iceland. As usual with regional parties in Canada, it is only loosely with the mother party at the federal level, the Liberal Party of Canada connected. Party leader Robert Ghiz is, the incumbent Prime Minister of the province. Since the elections in May 2007 at the Liberals 24 of 27 deputies in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Iceland.

Since its inception in 1851, the Liberals are in addition to the Conservatives the only party that formed the government at the provincial level. Exist between two parties only a few differences: Both position themselves in the middle of the political spectrum, with liberals more to the left, conservatives tend particular issues more to the right. The Liberals found their followers in traditionally Catholic and French-speaking Acadians in the west of the island, the Conservatives closer to Protestants and to the east of the island.
