Prince Franz de Paula of Liechtenstein

Franz de Paula Joseph Joachim Prinz von und zu Liechtenstein ( born February 25, 1802 in Vienna, † March 31, 1887 ) was an Austrian general.

Origin

Prince Franz was a son of Prince Johann I Josef of Liechtenstein and Princess Josefa. Prince Franz -founded a side-line of the royal house which came with his great-grandson, Franz Joseph II in 1938 in Liechtenstein to the government.

Life

Prince Franz of Liechtenstein joined in 1821 as a lieutenant in the Austrian light cavalry regiment No. 1 a. Since 1824 he was a lieutenant in the Lancers Regiment No. 3, 1825 Captain in Uhlan Regiment No. 2 From 1828 to 1830 he served as the squadrons commander back in Uhlan Regiment No. 3 In 1832 he was on duty in various hussar regiments and moved in 1836 to colonel on. In the revolutionary year of 1848 Prince Franz took part in the operations in Italy as a Brigadier in the Reserve Corps Welden. In October 1848 he joined the army of Prince Alfred I. zu Windisch -Graetz and participated as Field Marshal - Lieutenant and Major General in the crackdown on the uprising in Hungary in 1849. Starting in July 1849 was Prince Franz commander of the Reserve Corps and from 16 October 1849 of the 13th Army Corps in Hungary. Also in 1849 he became the owner of the Hussars 9th 1859 Prince Franz was appointed general of the cavalry and was from 1860 to 1866 Cavalry General Inspector. From 1860 to 1861 he led in Hungary, the country's General Command. In 1868 he retired. Honors

For his services in the suppression of the revolution in Hungary Prince Franz in 1850 was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Military Maria Theresa Order.

Progeny

On June 3, 1841 married Prince Franz in Vienna Countess Julie Eudoxia of Potocki - Piława ( 1818-1895 ), sister of Count Alfred Józef Potocki, which 1870/71 Austrian Prime Minister was. The couple had four children:

  • Alfred (1842-1907), since 1865 married to Henriette of Liechtenstein ( 1843-1931 ). From this marriage 10 children including Alois ( 1869-1955 ), the father of Prince Franz Josef II ( 1906-1989 ) emerged,
  • Josefina Marie Juliane (1844-1854)
  • Aloys (1846-1920), since 1872 married to Marie Henriette Adelaide Fox ( 1850-1878 ). From this union four daughters were born. Since 1890 married to Johanna Maria Elisabeth of Klinkosch ( 1849-1925 ). This marriage remained childless
  • Heinrich Karl August (1853-1914), remained unmarried
