Prince Heinrich of Hesse-Kassel

Heinrich Wilhelm Konstantin Victor Franz Prinz von Hessen -Kassel ( born October 30, 1927 in Rome, † 18 November 1999 in Wolf Castle Garden ) was a German painter and stage designer who used his Italian name Enrico d' Assia as an artist.

Enrico d' Assia was the son of Philip of Hesse and Princess Mafalda of Savoy, a daughter of King Victor Emmanuel III. of Italy. The princess died in 1944 in the concentration camp Buchenwald. Early childhood spent Enrico d' Assia in Rome. From 1933 he lived alternately in Kassel and in Rome.

After passing his Abitur in 1946 Enrico d' Assia Bieberstein moved back to Italy. His romantic and playful style of painting with surrealist elements developed to his haunts in Rome and Ischia and Capri. Since the 1960s, he worked increasingly as a designer of stage sets at the opera in Rome and Florence, and especially at La Scala in Milan.
