Prince of Leiningen

The Principality of Leiningen was composed after the Empire in 1803 during the short-lived Principality of secularization, which was mostly in present-day Baden- Württemberg and to a smaller extent in present-day Bavaria and especially for a line of the noble family of the Leininger was created.

History

The Prince of Leiningen- line Dabo - Hard castle were compensated for their lost possessions on the left bank in the Palatinate with a new territory, which was formed from the former Electorate of Mainz, the Palatinate and fürstbischöflich Wurzburg area parts. The residence was in Amorbach. From the kurmainzischen dominion of the Leininger received the monastery Amorbach, the offices ( Tauber ) Bishop Home, Seligental, Book and Miltenberg, from the Wurzburg dominion of the offices Grünfeld, Hard Home, Lauda, ​​Rippberg and Gerlachsheim and of the Palatinate the offices Boxberg and Mosbach. The new principality had an area of 1600 km ² and had 90,000 inhabitants.

The rule of the Leininger but lasted only a few years; in 1806 was the major part of the principality of Baden, the remains of Bavaria and Hesse. The princes kept as so-called lords until the revolution of 1848/49 their own district offices and courts, as well as them still remained significant private estates, which is essentially today consist of forests.
