Princess Alexandra of Hanover and Cumberland, full name Alexandra Louise Marie Olga Elisabeth Therese Vera of Hanover and Cumberland ( born September 29, 1882, Schloss Ort in Gmunden, † August 30, 1963 at Schloss Glücksburg in Glücksburg ) was a member of the House of Hanover and by marriage the last Grand Duchess of Mecklenburg-Schwerin part of the country.

Life

Alexandra was the second daughter of six children of the Duke of Cumberland and the last Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Hanover, Ernst August ( II ) of Hanover ( 1845-1923 ) and his wife Princess Thyra of Denmark ( 1853-1933 ), the youngest daughter of King Christian IX. of Denmark.

Along with her ​​siblings, she grew up in the Austrian exile Gmunden. In one of the many family gatherings she met her future husband. Due to the premature death of her daughter Olga, who died at just six weeks, the Grand Duchess of improving medical care of children turned to from 1917.
