Princess Louise Eleanore of Hohenlohe-Langenburg

Louise Eleonore of Hohenlohe- Langenburg ( born August 11, 1763 in Langenburg, † April 30, 1837 in Meiningen, Germany ) was Duchess and 1803-1821 Regent of Saxe- Meiningen.

Life

Louise Eleanor was a daughter of Prince Christian Albrecht Ludwig zu Hohenlohe -Langenburg and his wife Caroline of Stolberg- Gedern ( 1732-1796 ). On November 27 1782 she married in Langenburg Duke George I of Saxe- Meiningen.

When her husband died on 24 December 1803 she became the guardian of her son's friend Erich Bernhard II, the government of the duchy. By the Napoleonic war turmoil caused, the country was forced in 1806 to join the Confederation of the Rhine and to provide troops. After the end of the war it had come in the Duchy of famine, which Louise Eleonore sought to counteract the import of grain.

She made through land consolidation for better manageability of the country and opened 1821 in Meiningen high school already begun during his lifetime of her husband Bernhardinum. Her children brought up carefully and made it known on a trip to Italy with the pedagogue Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi.

Her daughter Adelaide married the future King William IV of Great Britain and Ireland. In the land had to be adopted for the enormous dowry of the bride special taxes. After her son had reached the age of majority, Louise Eleanor went on several trips, including to England to her daughter, to which she had a very intimate relationship. Bernhard II had for them in Meiningen until 1823 Wittumspalais, today's Great Palace, built as a residence.
