Princess Maria Augusta of Saxony

Princess Maria Augusta Nepomucena Antonia Franziska Xaveria Aloysia of Saxony ( born June 21, 1782 in Dresden, † March 14, 1863 ibid ) was a Saxon princess and Polish heir to the throne of the house of Albertine Wettin.

Life

Augusta was the only surviving child of the Elector Friedrich August III. of Saxony (1750-1827) from his marriage to Amalie (1752-1828), daughter of the Count Palatine Frederick Michael of Zweibrücken- Birkenfeld.

On the basis of Article 7 of the Polish Constitution of May 3, 1791 Augusta's father was appointed as the successor of King Stanislaus II of Poland and Augusta declared as the heir to the throne in Poland. However, Frederick Augustus renounced the Polish crown, which made the article pointless.

1806 Augusta's father, King of Saxony and Augusta was the first royal Saxon princess. Plans to marry her in a home that supported their Polish claim to the throne failed. Legacy of her father as King of Saxony was his brother Anton. Augusta died 80 years old and unmarried. She was buried in the great vault of the Dresdner Hofkirche.
