Princess Marie of Baden (1782–1808)

Princess Marie Elisabeth Wilhelmine of Baden ( born September 7, 1782 Karlsruhe, † December 8, 1808 in Bruchsal ) was a member of the House of Baden and by marriage Duchess of Brunswick and Lüneburg and Duchess of Brunswick- Wolfenbüttel and of oil.

Origin

Marie was the fifth daughter of the Hereditary Prince Karl Ludwig of Baden (1755-1801) and his wife Amalie (1754-1832), daughter of Landgrave Ludwig IX. of Hesse- Darmstadt and Princess Henriette Karoline von Pfalz- Zweibrücken. Your paternal grandparents were Grand Duke Karl Friedrich of Baden and his first wife Princess Karoline Luise of Hesse- Darmstadt.

Marriage and descendants

On November 1, 1802 Princess Marie of Baden in Karlsruhe with Duke Friedrich Wilhelm of Brunswick- Wolfenbüttel - Oels ( 1771-1815 ), fourth son of Duke Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand of Brunswick- Wolfenbüttel and Princess Royal Augusta of Great Britain and Ireland, married. From this marriage two children were born:

  • Karl (1804-1873), Duke of Brunswick
  • Wilhelm August Ludwig Maximilian (1806-1884), Duke of Brunswick
  • Stillbirth of a daughter on December 7, 1808

Flight and exile

The Principality of Brunswick- Wolfenbüttel in 1807 the Kingdom of Westphalia annexed, which was ruled by Emperor Napoleon's younger brother Jérôme Bonaparte. Duchess Marie fled with her children to her brother Karl and lived until her early death in Pforzheim, where she was buried in the royal crypt.
