Princess Royal Island

Princess Royal Iceland is the fourth largest island in the Canadian province of British Columbia. The 2251 km ² large, uninhabited island with a coastline of 592 kmerhielt its name in 1788 by Captain Charles Duncan, who named it after his sloop Princess Royal. The island is situated on the Inside Passage, 520 kilometers north of Vancouver and 200 kilometers south of Prince Rupert.

It can be reached only by boat or plane Princess Royal Iceland. Today the island is uninhabited, but formerly there were small settlements of miners, loggers and fishermen.

1950 crashed on the island of a B-36 nuclear bombs on board off. Upon impact of the machine on a mountain in bad weather died 5 of 17 crew members. The accident is considered the first loss of nuclear weapons at all.

The island is composed of temperate rainforest, especially can be found here, the Western Hemlock. In addition to grizzlies, wolves, foxes, deer and Marmelalken here are rare species such as the Kermode bear and the golden eagle home. On the coasts also live elephant seals and orcas.
