Princess Sophie of Saxe-Hildburghausen

Princess Ernestine Friederike Sophie of Saxe- Hildburghausen ( born February 22, 1760 Hildburghausen, † October 28, 1776 in Coburg ) was Duchess of Saxe- Coburg -Saalfeld.

Life

Ernestine Friederike Sophie was the daughter of Duke Ernst Friedrich III. of Saxe- Hildburghausen (1727-1780) and the Ernestine Auguste Sophie of Saxe -Weimar- Eisenach ( 1740-1786 ). Godparents were Princess of the Danish royal couple, King of Poland, and the regents of the houses of Saxe- Coburg, Saxe-Weimar, Mecklenburg and Württemberg.

On March 6, 1776, they married 16 -year-old in Hildburghausen the hereditary prince and later Duke Franz of Saxe- Coburg -Saalfeld ( 1750-1806 ), who was in love at that time already in his later wife Auguste Reuss to Ebersdorf ( 1757-1831 ), the betrothal to Sophie but no more could dissolve. Just six months later on 28 October Sopie died childless in an influenza. She was buried in the crypt of the Coburg Moritz Church.
