Priority to the right

To handle the traffic at intersections and junctions each priority rules ( Ger. ) rules of priority apply ( Switzerland. / LIECHTENST. ) Or priority rules ( Austrian ). On the streets in most countries with right-hand traffic, the basic rule is right in front of left. The one who comes from the right has right of way, the other shall wait.

If required by the traffic conditions, the right of way is governed by specific characters. This road users need to see clearly in both directions, which rule applies. So there is always a negative (waiting obligation) and positive ( right of way ) traffic signs. Most of the waiting requirement is still shown by road markings.

International traffic rules in the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic are regulated.
