Propachlor is an active ingredient for plant protection and a chemical compound from the group of carboxylic acid amides.

Propachlor, by reaction of aniline with 2-chloropropane and then with chloroacetyl chloride.
Properties
Propachlor is a flammable white odorless solid that is very slightly soluble in water.
Use
Propachlor was used as a herbicide. It was approved in 1964 in the U.S. and about 2.1 million pounds were in the 1990 's in the USA used annually.
Since it can be assumed that the harmful effects on groundwater, it was not included in Annex I to Directive 91/414/EEC and withdraw all authorizations for plant protection products containing that substance.
