Propensity probability

Propensity, inclination, inclination or tendency is a realization proposed by Karl Popper objectivist interpretation of probability, let the can already be found in Peirce sketches. Popper developed to solve the problem of interpretation of quantum mechanics. In the propensity probability is a measure of the tendency of an experimental arrangement to produce a specific result.

The propensity face particular the subjectivist theory of Bayesianism that interprets probabilities as degrees of conviction, and the objective frequency theory, in which probabilities refers to the relative frequency of occurrence of an event in a series of repetitions or in an ensemble of identical processes. Epistemological realists prefer objectivist theories such as the propensity, as these statements about the real world meets itself or implied, and not just the opinions of a person. In contrast to the frequency interpretation, it can also accept that probabilities for individual cases exist, and explain why they do this.

Propensities are generalized forces and thus real properties of physical systems for Popper. They are relational and are not, as with the potentialities of Aristotle, in the things themselves: If two dice are considered, one of which has an imbalance in favor of the side that is the 6 opposite, then the propensity of this weighted cube, to land in a strong gravitational field according to a litter of 6 above, significantly higher than that observed in the other cubes 1/6 to be. In an experiment in a weak gravitational field, however, it is closer to 1/6.
