Prosciurillus

The Sulawesi Dwarf Squirrel ( Prosciurillus ) are one on the Indonesia island of Sulawesi belonging and some neighboring islands -based genus croissants. They are usually sent to the tribe of beautiful croissants, but their membership is controversial because many anatomical variations of the typical features of the skull nice croissant. Externally, they resemble the small New World squirrel, but here there is no close relationship.

Differences are four or five ways:

  • Mean Sulawesi dwarf squirrel ( Prosciurillus murinus ), Northeast and Central Sulawesi
  • Whitish Sulawesi Dwarf Squirrel ( Prosciurillus leucomus ), Sulawesi and adjacent islands of Buton and Kabaena
  • Sangihe dwarf squirrel ( Prosciurillus rosenbergi ), Sangihe Islands
  • Weber- dwarf squirrel ( Prosciurillus weberi ), Central Sulawesi
  • Prosciurillus abstrusus, Mengkoka Mountains in southeastern Sulawesi

The Sangihe Dwarf Squirrel is doing sometimes as subspecies of white lichen Sulawesi dwarf squirrel. The latter type P. abstrusus is known only from a range of hills and is led by the IUCN as endangered. However, it is known by any way frequently or infrequently it really is. These are secretive Squirrel the top region of the rainforest, which are poorly understood.

Sulawesi dwarf squirrels are inconspicuously colored brown. The body length is about 15 cm, added 9 cm tail.
