Autumn squill (Scilla autumnalis )

The autumn squill (Scilla autumnalis, Syn: Prospero autumnale (L.) Speta ) is a plant of the genus Blue star (Scilla ) in the family of asparagus plants ( Asparagaceae ).

Features

The autumn squill is an autumn - spring green, perennial, herbaceous plant, the growth heights of 10 to 15 ( rarely 40 ) reaches centimeters. This Geophyt forms onions as outlasting. The five to twelve leaves are usually 6-9 ( 2-18 ) inches long and 0.1 to 0.2 inches wide and blunt. You do not develop until after the round stems.

The inflorescence is six - to 25 - flowered and springs next to the rosette. Bracts absent. The hermaphrodite flowers are triple. The same multiform bracts are 4-5 mm long and pink to purple colored, with green-brown nerves.

The flowering period extends from August to September.

Occurrence

The distribution area of the Autumn Bluestar includes the Mediterranean Sea area, the Caucasus, Crimea, Middle East, Western Europe and the southern part of Great Britain. Here is this species found on dry, rocky hills, bushes and grass slopes.

Culture

This type is rarely used as an ornamental plant in heathland and the beautiful gardens.
