Prospero Fontana
Prospero Fontana ( Bologna * 1512, † 1597 in Rome ) was an Italian Renaissance painter.
Life
He appeared in several Italian cities and assisted, among others, Vasari and Zuccaro. Fontana worked briefly in Fontainebleau ( 1560) and finally settled in Bologna, where he became the first teacher Ludovico Carracci.
Fontana's late style reveals the influence of Michelangelo and already belonged to Mannerism. Fontana was also a good portrait painter and father of Lavinia Fontana.
