He sings on this album, in Arabic, English, French, Galician, Portuguese and Spanish. The name comes from a sample of the announcement for the station Esperanza on line 4 of the Madrid Metro.

In Germany Próxima Estación was: Esperanza the most successful album by Manu Chao and reached # 4 on the LP charts. In the " Top Latin Albums " of the American music magazine Billboard, the album managed to Rank 8
