Przasnysz

Przasnysz ( German Praschnitz 1939-45 ) is a town in Poland, in the Masovian Voivodship. It lies about 100 km north of Warsaw and is the capital of the powiat Przasnyski represents the city covers an area of 2516 ha. 2004, the city had 18,093 inhabitants. Zip code is 06-300.

The city rights were granted Przasnysz in 1427. According to the partition of Poland, the town belonged officially to the Russian Empire. With the re-establishment of an independent Polish state 1919 Przasznysz came back to Poland. In 1939, the city was annexed to the German Reich and renamed Praschnitz and capital of the district in East Prussia. After German descent were settled from the Baltic States and Romania here. 1945 Praschnitz was occupied by the Red Army and fell back to Poland.

Rural community

Przasnysz is the seat of an eponymous rural commune ( gmina wiejska ) to which it does not belong. The rural municipality has an area of ​​183.91 km ² with a population of 7,221 (30 June 2010 ).
