Przemko III, Duke of Opava

Přemysl III. of Opava (also Primislaus / Przemko III of Opava, .. czech Přemysl III Opavský; * 1450, † February 17, 1493 ) was Duke of Opava and canon of Breslau, Olomouc and Vienna, and provost of the parish of St. Othmar in Mödling. He came from the Opava branch of the Bohemian Přemyslids.

Life

His parents were William Duke of Opava and Salome, a daughter of the Bohemian Půta of Častolowitz.

After his father's death in 1452 his brother Ernst took over the guardianship of Přemysl and his four siblings. Together with his brothers Frederick and Wenceslaus III. had Přemysl III. two-thirds of the Duchy of Opava inherited. The law of succession to the Duchy of Münsterberg they were denied because her father had this in 1451 his brother Ernst transferred by contract and this left him in return his third in Opava. After 1454 Ernst sold as guardian Přemysl III. and his brothers, their two-thirds share of the Opava Opole Duke Bolko V., during the last third could hold to 1464 her cousin John II of Leobschutz.

Since Přemysl III. had no prospect of a steady income, he was appointed by his uncle for the clergy. In 1464 he enrolled at the University of Krakow under the entry " Preclarus princeps Przyemislaus dux Oppawie Baptist " In the same year he, along with his uncle Přemysl II, as a member of the Breslau cathedral chapter occupied ( dux dux junior and senior), where it is referred to in 1466 as Duke of Münsterberg. The right to this titulary he took over from his late father, whose mother was a sister of the last Piast Münster Berger Johann I.. Probably at this time was Přemysl III. also a canon of Olomouc.

Starting in the winter semester 1471 studied Přemysl III. at the University of Vienna, where he probably acquired the academic degree of bachelor. In 1479 he became the successor of the late Viennese Cathedral Dean Paul Laubmann as " dux Primislaus Oppaue " his successor. Him he followed as provost of the parish of St. Othmar in Mödling to him Emperor Frederick III. at the same time with the apartment zuwies in the ducal court. In the ducal court, where there is his coat of arms to this day, he lived until his death. His position as parish priest he should have perceived very conscientious. In the Vienna Metropolitan archive are for the years 1481-1484 several documents that show his work. Although he was largely impoverished by the destruction of the Duchy of Opava, he was by his university degree to the most outstanding and most educated Moravian and Silesian nobles of his time.

Přemysl III. Whose life data are often confused in the older literature with his uncle Přemysl II, died unmarried and without issue on 17 February 1493rd His body was interred in the Mödlinger parish church of St. Othmar, where on the north wall of his tomb received red marble. It contains an inscription that reflects its status and spiritual functions. "Anno Domini 1493 17 februarii obiit illustris hic princeps Primislaus Opavie dux. Wratislaviensi Olemucensis et Wiennensis. Ecclesiarum canonicus Plebanus hic in Medling atque decanus Wienne Austrie, cuius anima vivat deodorant. Amen "
