Pseudotrichonotus altivelis

Pseudotrichonotus ( Gr. " pseudes " = false, " thirx " = hair " noton " = back ) is a species-poor, only two kinds comprehensive genus of fish belonging to the order Eidechsenfisch relatives ( Aulopiformes ). The two very similar marine fish come far apart separated before, a kind of Japanese Izu Peninsula in the northwestern Pacific, the other at the Saya de Malha Bank northeast of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean.

Features

The two marine fish are 6-9 cm long and have an elongated cylinder-like body and a pointed snout with a small mouth. The dorsal fin is supported by 33 soft rays, the anal fin 13 to 15 fin rays. The swirl number is 48 to 50, which the Branchiostegalstrahlen at six.
