Pteridine is a binuclear aromatic heterocycle which contains the structural elements of a pyrazine and a pyrimidine ring. The substance is not of great importance in chemistry, but the constitutional formula is the root structure of the pterins, among which fall pigments in the wings of some butterflies ( Pieridae ), including the whites Large White (Pieris brassicae), Green-veined White (Pieris napi ) and Brimstone ( Gonepteryx rhamni ). The names pterin and pteridine derived at the suggestion of Heinrich Otto Wieland from the Greek pteron, 'wings' from. The folic acid containing the pteridine and pterin heterocycle.

Production

A simple synthetic access to pteridine consists in the condensation of 4,5- Diamino with glyoxal.
