Pterospora andromedea
Pterospora andromedea is a plant of the family Ericaceae ( Ericaceae ) and the only species of its genus.
Description
Pterospora andromedea is a chlorophyll -less, myco - heterotrophic herbaceous plant and staffed with multicellular glandular hairs. Your root system is compact, the burgeoning of them shoot and inflorescence axis is pink to reddish. The leaves are simple.
The inflorescence is many flowered, the flowers are urn -shaped. The sepals are fused. The stamens are half as long as the crown, spurred anthers long and probably late turning, at the end and side vents. The nectaries are barely visible. The stylus is pressed and very short.
The fruit opens forth from the roots, the seeds are winged and thin-walled, with slightly elongated cells. The chromosome number is n = 8
Dissemination
The species is found in western North America to Mexico and the Great Lakes region at altitudes 60-3675 meters.

Species and genus were first described in 1818 by Thomas Nuttall.
