History

In 1979, Hans and Michael Hubschneider Sahling founded the PTV Planning Office Transport GmbH in Karlsruhe. Between the years 1979 and 1982 they designed the first computer program for the tour. Among the first projects included the location and distribution planning for Raiffeisen in Schleswig -Holstein, a line network planning for the bus and road transport in Mannheim and a tour for HB's Iglo. These projects were also the basis for other software products for the then fledgling company.

The joint stock company PTV AG transport was established in 1999 and merged the incurred up to that five " PTV LLCs ". Since 2001, the company is active in the issues of transport, mobility and logistics. July 1, 2011 PTV - founder Hans Hubschneider has handed over the management to Vincent Kobesen.

Organization

PTV is organized as a corporation. The company is divided into three business segments: Traffic Software ( traffic planning, traffic modeling and simulation, public transport), Transport Consulting ( transport planning and traffic engineering, traffic management, public transport, integrated transport concepts for sustainable mobility) and Logistics Software (planning and optimization of transports and distribution structures, software for route and trip planning, Geomanagement, geo, visualization on digital maps ).

Products

Traffic Software:

  • PTV Vision
  • VISA ( macroscopic modeling of traffic demand )
  • VISSIM (microscopic simulation of traffic )
  • Traffic Platform
  • Traffic Count Management

The software solutions are used by planning agencies, authorities and research institutions, also of universities in the education of their traffic engineers. An example is the Dresden University of Technology, collaborated their traffic faculty in the development of a tool.

Logistics Software:

  • PTV Map & Guide ( First Routing with TÜV-certified emission calculation)
  • PTV SmarTour - "The New Generation tour " ( professional tour program for shippers)
  • Intertour ( professional tour program for shippers)
  • Map & Market (software for optimizing sales and field service )
  • XServer ( geographical and logistical software components)

Projects

For the Formula 1 racetrack in Abu Dhabi, the Yas Marina Circuit, PTV created in 2009 with the transportation planning software PTV Vision, a multi-modal traffic simulation for the approach and departure paths. This simulation encompassed all types of traffic in a single model. With VISSIM also the behavior of the Formula 1 visitor could be shown in the auditorium.

2008 PTV supported the Karlsruhe Open Air Festival " THE FEAST " with a pedestrian simulation for escape routes. Basis of the information film was the VISSIM software module. The module makes it possible to represent a realistic interaction between people at major events as well as between humans and vehicles.

As part of the pilot project " Congestion Free Hessen 2015 " represents the PTV technique for the traffic information system "Dynamic Information and Navigation Assistance " ( DIANA ) are available. Here, the traffic data are not transmitted from fixed measuring points, but on the floating car data techniques of selected road users via their mobile phones.

As part of " Dusseldorf in Motion" ( Dmotion ) PTV planned control strategies for the conurbation Dusseldorf and developed a concept for consistent traffic situation in the transition region. In addition, the company has installed a traffic information service that detects and predicts the traffic situation in North Rhine -Westphalia state capital in real time.

In addition, PTV is involved in other systems for traffic management, traffic forecasting and traffic information. Among other things, the Traffic Management Center ( VMZ ) Berlin, the Ruhr pilot and traffic information on the website BayernInfo.de the state of Bavaria.

Research

At the IAA Commercial Vehicles 2010 in Hanover PTV presented the results of the study " Intelligent Cargo Systems ". The research study was done on behalf of the European Commission and addresses the issue of "intelligent freight ". She points to future scenarios for the years 2020 and 2035. It takes account of the increasing requirements in the field of efficient and sustainable logistics as well as the increasingly complex planning for global transport chains across all modes of transport.

Since 2008, PTV "Climate and Energy in a Complex Transition Process towards Sustainable Hyderabad" Other matters addressed by the project with the topic of megacities. By 2013, to be worked out here, among others at city- level planning principles. From its base, then the design of the transport system and the transport infrastructure is to be decided.

For the supported by the European Commission project CVIS PTV has developed a new routing method for urban transport. The strategic routing method can also take into account traffic recommendations of towns and cities. Concrete test field was Dortmund.

Together with 28 partners PTV is involved in the research initiative ACTIVE ( "Adaptive and Cooperative Technologies for Intelligent Traffic "). This has set itself the goal to make the traffic safer and smoother. Here, new driver assistance systems and information technologies are emerging as well as software solutions for efficient traffic management. PTV developed for a network that communicates with the traffic management system information functions in the vehicle and the infrastructure.

Awards

Since 2007, the PTV AG wrote in the two-year cycle of the so-called PTV Vision Scientific Award. This competition is open to scientists who work for their research work with the software packages VISUM and VISSIM. In 2007, the prize of 2500 euro prize to Wilco Burghout of the Catholic University of Stockholm and Johan Wahlstedt by the engineering firm Rambol. They got him for her thesis on " Hybrid Traffic Simulation with Adaptive Signal Control". 2009 received the award Guide Gentile of the University of Rome for its newly developed algorithm LUCE (Linear User Cost Equilibrium ).

In October 2007, the PTV AG " for their system for individual calculation of car insurance " was awarded with their so-called pay-as- you-drive system with the Big Brother Award in the category " Technology". As one of the few companies PTV accepted the award.

For its international leadership PTV was awarded in January 2011 with the world leader Seal of the publishing German editions standards and an independent jury.
