Publius Septimius Geta (brother of Septimius Severus)

Publius Septimius Geta was a Roman politician and senator.

Geta was born in Leptis Magna in the province of Africa, and was the brother of the Emperor Septimius Severus. His date of birth is unknown, which is why it is also unclear whether he was older or younger than his brother.

Prior to his praetorian career was Cerialis Geta decemvir stlitibus iudicandis, tribune of the Legio II Augusta, quaestor in the province of Creta et Cyrene and aedil.

To 185 Geta was legate of Legio I Italica, after he was proconsul of the province of Sicily ( probably around 187/188 ), and between his proconsul and his Suffektkonsulat legate of the province of Lusitania (probably 188-191 ).

Probably Geta was 191 Suffektkonsul year. After his consulship he was legate of the Roman province of Moesia inferior ( Niedermösien ). As governor, he led the command of the army niedermösische and supported his brother Severus, when he was proclaimed in April 193 in Pannonia superior to the emperor. Most likely Geta has been appointed by Commodus inferior to the governor of Moesia. After his governorship of Moesia Geta eventually became legate of Dacia. The crowning achievement of his career was the ordinary consulate along with the praetorian prefect in 203 Plautian
