Puerto Padre

Puerto Padre is a city and a municipality in the province of Las Tunas, Cuba. The city is located in the northern coastal region of the province of the same name Puerto Padre Bay. Puerto Padre had in 2004 a population of 93 705 in an area of 1,178 km ².

The city is divided into the barrios (neighborhoods) of Chaparra, Delicias, Estrada Palma, La Lima, La Yaya, Los Alfonso, Maniabón, Norte, San Manuel, Santa Maria, Sur, Vedado and Yarey.

The history of the city dates back to the 16th century. From the mid 19th century was the first signs of a industrialization of sugarcane production or refining of the raw material to build a first sugarcane mill. Today, tourism is an economic factor for the city and region.
