Pummerer rearrangement

The Pummerer rearrangement is an organic chemical reaction, can be implemented in the sulfoxides with anhydrides. The resulting about various intermediates products are α - Acyloxysulfide which may serve as a synthetic equivalent of the protected carbonyl. The reaction is named after its discoverer Rudolf Pummerer ( 1882-1973 ).

The Pummerer rearrangement is also found as a side reaction of the Swern oxidation.
