Pupuke Robati

Sir Pupuke Robati KBE ( born April 9, 1925 in Rakahanga, Cook Islands, † April 26, 2009 in Auckland, New Zealand) was a politician of the Cook Islands.

Biography

Robati began his political career in 1965 with the first elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly ( Legislative Assembly ), in which he represented the interests of the Democratic Party in the constituency of Penrhyn atoll of Rakahanga after his re- election in 1972. While the questions of the Democratic Party under Tom Davis governments from July 1978 to April 1983, he was Deputy Prime Minister ( Deputy Prime Minister ) and from November 1983 to July 1987 Minister.

On July 29, 1987, he was the successor of Davis eventually even Prime Minister of the Cook Islands and held this office until his replacement by Geoffrey Henry on 1 February 1989.

He was named for his merits by Queen Elizabeth II as Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2001. Last Robati was dated 24 July 2001 to 2004 President of the Parliament (Speaker of Parliament ). In the elections in September 2004, he was defeated by independent candidate Piho Rua.
