For the first single Big Empty, which is also the soundtrack to the movie The Crow - The Crow was the band an MTV Movie Award accepted in the Best Song From a Movie category in the same year.

The reviews of Purple were mostly positive. In Rock Hard Frank Albrecht was of the view that one can no longer accuse the band with this album that she had stolen their ideas. Although one could guess where the influences of the band are, but the pieces in itself would listen completely independent: " Relaxed rock songs with clean instrumentation, sophisticated melodies, gefühlsbetontem singing and exceedingly successful arrangements The poignant ' Still Remains ', that to me. can cold chills down your spine, is just one example. follows him a beautiful number called 'Pretty Penny ', which is only performed with acoustic guitar, vocals and a few subtle bongos. too, the relatively aggressive ' Vaseline ' and the hit single - suspicious, melancholic opener ' Meatplow ' are among the highlights of "Purple". Though the pilot ran out of steam ( goes to the B-side towards the end a little only the witty final song ' Kitchen Ware And Candy bars ' falls through his foggy night club atmosphere again from the frame ), but summarily Sumarum STP have here delivered a compelling disc that you can not rewrite the terms " grunge ", " Metal" or " alternative " for sure. "Feeling " is the magic word, for which the STONE TEMPLE PILOTS have packed a lot into their songs. A big compliment for it. " On a final note Albrecht awarded nine out of ten possible points. The album was also in the category of" classified dynamite ".
