Pustertaler Sprinzen

The piebald or Pusteria Val Pusteria Sprinzen are a breed of cattle house.

The breed was bred by introducing Swiss Eringerrindern in the down- country race in Val Pusteria and its side valleys. The animals are predominantly white with chestnut to light brown or black patches on the hull sides, the back often dissolve in small spots to the edge ( Sprinzen ). The cows weigh about 600-700 kg, bulls approximately 900-1100 kg. The breed is usually used for meat production in suckler cow. Few cows are milked.

In the 19th century it came to the introgression of the Pinzgauer. The exclusion of the licensing (1927 ) by adopting the agricultural inspectorate led to the collapse of this breed of cattle. Only since about 1984, the breeding of this breed is again given more importance.

The breed is now bred in Germany, Austria and Italy ( South Tyrol). The inventory number of the breed have stabilized at a low level.
