Puygros

Puygros is a town in the French department of Savoie in the Rhone -Alpes.

Geography

Puygros is located at 760 m above sea level. M., approximately 9 km east of the town of Chambery (air line). The farming village extends to the west of the department of Savoie, in the southern part of the massif of the Wallows, on a saddle east of the valley floor of Chambéry, at the western foot of the Pointe de la Galoppaz.

History

The first mention of Puygros was in 1207 under the name Nantellum de Podio grosso. Later, the spellings Puigros ( 1578) and Puisgros published. The place name is composed of the words puy (height, hill ) and wholesale ( thick, wide ) together. The area of Puygros belonged successively to the families Amblard, Seyssel and the Chaffardon castle.

Population
