Pyhäjärvi (Tampere region)

The Pyhajarvi is a lake in the Finnish landscape Pirkanmaa.

Although the name in modern Finnish language " holy lake " is, its original meaning may have been " Border Sea ".

The Pyhajarvi has the shape of the letter " C" with the cities of Tampere and Nokia at the north end, and the city of Lempäälä at the southern end.

The Pyhajarvi has an area of ​​121.61 km ² and is situated at an altitude of 77.2 m. It is fed by the water of Tammerkoski rapids that run through the city center of Tampere and drain the lake system of Näsijärvi, as well as the Kuokkalankoski rapids, which drain the lake Vanajavesi and flow to the Pyhajarvi on its southern shore.

The effluent is the Nokianvirta leaving the lake at Nokia and the Kokemäenjoki flows, which opens into the Gulf of Bothnia.
