Flamed Kleinzünsler ( Endotricha flammealis )

The Pyralinae are a subfamily of the European corn borer ( Pyralidae ). Currently, about 900 species are known, of which 13 species are also found in Central Europe. In Europe so far 53 species were detected.

Features

The moths reach wingspans of about 20 to 40 millimeters. The typical snout of southwestern corn borer, in some forms also regressed (eg genus Aglossa ). The antennae of the males are usually combed twice ( bipektinat ). The web, which is applied by the caterpillars is usually tubular in shape.

Way of life

The vast majority of species are pests of different kinds of dried plant products. Few other specialists are known, for example, a species whose caterpillar lives in bat droppings; the caterpillars of other species eat leaves.
