Pyrénée

Pyrenea ( Pyrénée ) is a 48 -page comic book of the French artist Philippe Loisel and bells from the year 1998. The comic was published in French, Dutch and German. In Germany he appeared in 1999 at Egmont Ehapa. The translation is by Paul Derouet and Hartmut Becker. The story can be assigned to the genres of adventure and fantasy.

Action

During an earthquake a circus bear flees from his usual environment. In his escape, he finds a little girl whose mother is buried under the rubble of a house. He takes the girl in the Pyrenees. The bear is the little name Pyrenea and pulls them out. Here, a fox who supplied the girl regularly with self-caught animals helps him.

Over the years the differences between bears and humans are too big. The bear is aware of this, but like Pyrenea not hurt and sends it to the old man, a hermit, so that could explain what is human. However, it meets only his friend, a blind old eagle. This encourages them to engage with philosophical issues and eventually leads them to a human skeleton. This is the beginning of Pyreneas Incarnation and after a long cold winter together with the eagle, where this Pyrenea tells everything he knows about people she meets one last time her friend the bear before heading out to look for other people.

Literary model

The literary model of the comic is obviously the jungle book by British author Rudyard Kipling. This and its sequel The second jungle book are collections of short stories and poems in which the growth of the human child Mowgli is among wolves in the center.
