Qanawat

Kanatha (also Canatha ) was one of the cities of the Decapolis, a loose alliance of Greek and Roman cities of ancient Palestine. It was located on the site of the present village of El - Qanawat in Syria, north -east of Bosra.

The ruins extends over 1.5 km × 750 m. These include the remains of a Roman bridge, a rock-hewn Roman theater, a Nymphaeum, a cryptoporticus an aqueduct and a prostyle temple and a Peripteros Temple.

The city is first mentioned by Josephus ( Jüd. War I, 19.2; Jüd Old XV, 5.1. . ). Pliny and Ptolemy, among the cities of the Decapolis. Next she is mentioned by Eusebius of Caesarea and Stephanos of Byzantium and was a bishopric ( suffragan of Bosra ). Today Canatha is a titular of the Roman Catholic Church.
