Quartet on the Middle East

The Quartet is a group of states, inter-governmental and inter-governmental organizations that mediate the peace process in the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians and vote the common position in relation to the conflict. The Quartet consists of the United States, Russia, the European Union and the United Nations. The group was founded in Madrid in 2002 by the then Spanish Prime Minister Aznar in response to the escalating conflict in the Middle East. Since his resignation as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom on 27 June 2007 Tony Blair is the special envoy of the Quartet. Some Arab countries throw the body repeatedly against a pro-Israel stance. The Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed in November 2012 to journalists his concerns about the effectiveness of the committee for the settlement of the conflict to contribute, if it does not work closer together with the Arab League.
