Qubadli District
Qubadli is a rayon in Azerbaijan. The capital of the district is the city Qubadli. The rayon is occupied since the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in 1993 by Armenia, the Armenian name is Kashunik.
Geography
The district has an area of 802 km ². The area is part of the Lesser Caucasus, the highlands of Karabakh .. The rayon rivers Worotan and Hakari flow.
History
Until the first half of the 18th century Qubadli was mostly inhabited by Armenians, followed by Azerbaijani and Kurdish tribes. The area was part of the Republic from 1923 to 1930 Red Kurdistan, after the district Zangelan.
In 1993 the district of Armenia was occupied in the conflict over the breakaway Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh. Qubadli is not claimed by Armenia, but as a buffer zone between Armenia and Azerbaijan still controlled.
Population
In Rayon lived 2009 after 37,400 people in 95 Azerbaijani information settlements. After the invasion of the Armenian Army, a large part of the population was displaced.
Economy
The economy is dominated by agriculture. There is grain, wine and tobacco grown and operated livestock and sericulture. There are dairies, mills and wineries.
Culture and sights
In the caves of Kavur are sacred caves and near the village Muradkhanli a tower dating from the 5th century. In Aliushagi is the Geygala tower and two mausoleums at Damirchilar.
