Quiabentia zehntneri

Quiabentia zehntneri is a species of the genus Quiabentia in the cactus family ( Cactaceae ). The specific epithet honors the zehntneri Swiss biologist Leo tithables (1864-1961) .. Trivial names are " Quiabento ", " Flor de Cera " and " Espinho de São Antonio ".

Description

Quiabentia zehntneri grows bushy with slender green shoots and reaches stature heights of up to 3 meters. Your 2 to 4 cm long leaves are ovate to almost circular and pointed. The shoots are covered with numerous short white spines.

The bright pink flowers are 3-4 inches long and can reach diameter 7-8 cm.

Distribution, systematics and hazard

Quiabentia zehntneri is widespread in northeastern Brazil on rocks in the open Caatinga vegetation at altitudes from 450 to 750 meters. The first description was in 1919 as Pereskia zehntneri by Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose. In the appendix of the fourth volume of her work The Cactaceae, the two authors in 1923 presented to the new genus Quiabentia for the type.

Quiabentia zehntneri is on the Red List of Threatened Species IUCN as "Least Concern ( LC) ," ie, as not at risk classified.
