Quim Monzó

Quim Monzo ( born March 24, 1952 in Barcelona ) lives in Barcelona and is considered an important Spanish author and "one of the most provocative voices of contemporary European literature."

Life

Monzo worked as a war correspondent and traveled among others, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Kenya and Northern Ireland. Thereafter he devoted himself entirely to the fiction. His first novel, L' udol del griso al caire de les clavegueres appeared in 1976. A year later, his first anthology of short stories ( Self Service) followed. By 2007, the author of two novels, six short story collections, and several collections of essays was published.

In addition to his literary activities Monzo also worked as a cartoonist and graphic designer, scriptwriter. He wrote for radio and television and worked as a translator and songwriter. When translating his own works into Spanish Quim Monzo collaborates with the prestigious Spanish novelist Javier Cercas. Particularly well known Monzo is in Catalonia through his columns that appear regularly in the daily newspaper La Vanguardia and his popular radio broadcasts El lloro, el moro, el mico i el senyor de Puerto Rico and El Minim esforç that he together with the renowned Catalan author Sergi Pàmies moderated. Also with Pàmies wrote Monzo brutal Sang ( Dirty Blood ), a Radionovela in 113 chapters.

Monzo writes only in Catalan. At the 59th Frankfurt Book Fair 2007 Quim Monzo held the literary opening speech at the focal point Catalonia.

From December 2009 to April 2010 was held in the rooms of Arts Santa Mónica in Barcelona a great retrospective of his life and work under the heading Monzo instead.
