Quinter is a city in Gove County in the U.S. state of Kansas in the United States with 961 inhabitants ( 2000 census ). The place is in the northwest of Gove County and has an area of 2.5 km ² without significant water surface.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 961 people in 393 households and 257 families. The population density was 378.6 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 97.40 % White, 0.10 % African American, 0.31 % Asian, and 0.94 % from other ethnic groups. 1.25% were descended from two or more races. 1.25 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Based on the entire village the population was spread out with 24.8 % under the age of 18, 4.5 % from 18 to 24, 19.0% between 25 and 44 years, 20.2% between 45 and 64 years and 31.5% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 46 years. For every 100 females there were 81.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 74.6 men statistically.

Of the 393 households out of which 28.2 % have children under the age of 18 living with them. 61.1 % were married couples living together, 3.3% were single mothers, 34.4 % were non-families, 33.8 % of all households are made up and 22.6% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.31 and the average family size was 2.97.

The median income for a household was $ 32,098, and the median income for a family was $ 41,111. Males have a median income of $ 25,313, women $ 17,292. The per capita income was $ 15,588. 5.4 % of families and 7.6 % of the population were below the poverty line. Of which 9.8 % have children under age 18 and 6.4% of those age 65 or over.
