Qurnat as Sawda'

The mountain al - Qurnat as- Sauda (also Qurnat as- Sawda ', Qurnat as Sawda ', it Qornet Saouda or Karnat as Sauda; Arab القرنة السوداء, DMG al - Qurnat as- Sauda ʾ for Black Horn ) is 3088 meters high and forms the highest point of Mount Lebanon, and thus also of the state in Lebanon. The mountain lies on the border between the governorate of North Lebanon and the Bekaa Governorate. In addition to the actual Qurnat as- Sauda, there are at least three other equivalently named side peak within 15 km.

The summit area of ​​Qurnat as- Sauda consists of partly sandy, partly rocky flat hilltops. In summer, the mountain is grazed down to the summit area of sheep. The summit is also considered hiking destination.

The summit can be reached via a winding slopes, 20 km away from the good summer village Ehden from. In good weather, the Mediterranean Sea about 25 km away, can be seen.

During the winter the peak is covered with ice and snow. The Resort The Cedars is used for skiing. Four ski and chair lifts lead up to Jabal El Makmel to 2817 m, 5 km south-west from the summit of Qurnat as- Sauda. Near the valley station is one of the last cedar forests of Lebanon Mountains.
