R136

R136 (also RMC 136) is a super star cluster located in the middle of the Tarantula Nebula in the Large Magellanic Cloud. The cluster is about 1-2 million years old. R136 consists of young, massive stars, whose hard radiation brings the cloud to glow and gives it a specific, crossed by filaments appearance. Many young stars, also of type Wolf -Rayet star of spectral type O3 include; 39 of which have been confirmed.

R136a

Until its discovery on April 8, 1981, astronomers at the Ruhr- University Bochum, it was believed that stars only up to a maximum of 120 solar masses may remain stable. The Super Sun R136a in the fog 30 Doradus apparently had 300 times the solar mass. R136a has a diameter of about 150 million kilometers, and would, if they are projected into our solar system, can fit about between the sun and the orbit of the Earth. It emits 100 million times brighter than the sun by the Hertzsprung - Russell and its surface temperature is approximately 60,000 degrees, which for its size is not very much in proportion. Maybe it is a hyper star as one suspects him in the center of a galaxy.

R136a has only acted as a super massive star of about 2,000 solar masses, then estimated at 750 solar masses. The arisen in the last -mentioned working assumption that R136a is an extremely dense pile of several stars, could be confirmed later with photographs from the Hubble Space Telescope by speckle observations and. R136a has been so resolved further, for example in R136a1 and R136a2 (1984) and R136a5 (1998).

After time as a red supergiant or luminous blue variables Powerful the most massive stars are so-called Wolf -Rayet stars. In the final stages of stellar evolution, the stars have lost most of their mass, and evolve back from the red to the blue region of the Hertzsprung- Russell diagram. From the star now is only the bright helium core left, producing the characteristic of Wolf- Rayet stars electromagnetic spectrum. A very strong stellar wind provides strong mass loss and the formation of circumstellar nebulae (Wolf -Rayet nebula ).
