Rabelo Boat

Rabelo is the name of a boat type that was used in Portugal for transporting wine barrels. The boats went on the region at the upper Douro to the production of Port wine in Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. Mostly drove the Rabelos only with the river flow, sailed was rare. Upstream, the boats were usually towed.

Today, the boats have lost their original purpose and only tourist character. They are either in the port wine cellars, on both sides of the Douro or take part in historical races.
