RÃ¥bjerg Mile

The Råbjerg Mile is a dune in northern Denmark, it is situated south- east of the cottage area Kandestederne. The dune moves crescent-shaped, typical of migrating dunes of the west coast of Denmark to the east. The Kattegat is removed at this point only about 3.5 km. For this reason, the dune will inevitably disappear once in the sea, as it is to observe a further 9 km north east of the Sand- church where the remains of a dune is slowly disappearing in the Kattegat.

Since the dune but on the way there the only - next to the beach - would wander genuine access road and the train tracks, it can be assumed that the Kommune Skagen will plant the dune in the future to prevent further migration.

The dune is between 35 and 40 meters high, has an area of approximately 1.2 × 1.0 km (120 ha) and each year moves 15 meters to the east. According to calculations, the Råbjerg Mile will reach the main road 40 in the year 2200 and after another 30 years disappear forever in the Kattegat.

Until the mid-19th century, the entire region was at Skagen from shifting sand dunes, and there was no fixed connection to Skagen. Thus, a fixed road could be built, all dunes were artificially planted so that they can no longer walk. So this could also be financed, the residents handed over the dunes of the Skagen Region, in return for a fixed road should now be built.

However, this was not to everyone's delight, as many were of the opinion you destroy from the unique landscape. So decided to Skagen Region, the Råbjerg Mile, now to protect the last unplanted dune, so that they could stand on and on can wander.
