Raccoon Butterflyfish ( Chaetodon lunula )

The crescent moon butterflyfish ( Chaetodon lunula ) lives in pairs or in small groups of up to 20 copies in the Indo-Pacific from the coast of East Africa and South Africa from East London to Hawaii, the Marquesas and Ducie, north to southern Japan and south to Lord- Howe Island and Rapa Iti. He stays in both lagoons as well as in outer reefs at depths greater than 30 meters. Raccoon Butterfly fish are 20 inches long.

The animals are nocturnal and feed on a variety of bottom-dwelling invertebrates, such as Nacktkiemerschnecken, the gill tufts of tube worms and algae. In the Marshall Islands, however, they should be feed exclusively on coral polyps.
